Overview

As Chief of Staff to the CEO, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effectiveness, alignment, and focus of a 250-person mission-driven tech and mental health nonprofit. You will act as a force multiplier for the CEO, drive strategic initiatives, and support cross-functional execution across the organization. This is a highly visible role that sits at the center of executive leadership, requiring exceptional judgment, empathetic leadership, and a systems-oriented mindset.

 

Responsibilities

Running the Office of the CEO

  • Partner with the Senior Executive Assistant to streamline the CEO’s schedule, travel, communications, and workflow.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner and gatekeeper, helping the CEO stay focused on the most critical, high-impact priorities.
  • Prepare and manage agendas, follow-ups, and content for Executive Team, Senior Leadership Team, All Hands, and other strategic meetings.
  • Draft and review internal and external communications in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications, Advancement, and Finance & Administration teams.
  • Act as the "air-traffic controller" for requests, information, and decisions flowing into and out of the CEO’s office.
 

Board of Directors Communication & Coordination

  • Lead the planning and execution of quarterly board and committee meetings, including developing agendas, presentation materials, and pre-reads.
  • Maintain consistent, clear, and timely communication with the Board of Directors on strategic updates, key milestones, and organizational health.
  • Support the Employee Board Member in understanding and fulfilling their governance role.
 

Strategy Development & Organizational Alignment

  • Partner with the CEO, COO, and senior leaders to develop long-term strategy, annual OKRs, and 6-month departmental goals; track and report progress against goals and priorities.
  • Work closely with the Business Operations team to align planning and resourcing with budget, staffing, and organizational priorities.
  • Prepare at least two Senior Leadership Team offsites each year to help senior leaders develop and align on strategy, and strengthen interpersonal collaboration and connection.
  • Coordinate decision-making and ensure alignment across the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams.
 

Cross-Functional Program & Project Management

  • Lead high-priority, cross-functional projects that strengthen organizational performance, culture, and decision-making.
  • Identify gaps, surface opportunities, and develop solutions that enable stronger execution and long-term impact.
  • Support internal change management efforts, ensuring key initiatives are well-communicated and effectively adopted.

Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of experience in operations, strategy, management consulting, or executive-level roles, ideally in nonprofit, tech, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-functional initiatives and drive outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with strong executive presence, discretion, and empathy.
  • Deep comfort working with data, strategic frameworks, and organizational metrics.
  • Commitment to mental health equity, social impact, and inclusive leadership.

Reliable High-Speed Internet Required: Must have a stable high-speed internet connection to support seamless remote collaboration, virtual meetings, online job tasks, etc.

The full salary range for this position, across all United States geographies, is $170,016 to $200,000 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience; during the interview process, candidates will learn the starting salary range applicable for their location. We pay competitively in the tech-forward nonprofit space and offer a robust benefits package.
