Major Gifts Officer

Remote
Full Time
Business Development
Senior Manager/Supervisor

The Role

Every gift to Crisis Text Line helps someone in crisis get support when they need it most. As our Major Gifts Officer, you’ll build the relationships behind that support.

This is a chance to build a major gifts program while it’s still taking shape. You’ll manage your own portfolio of donors and prospects, work side by side with our board and senior leaders, and have real say in how we find, engage, and thank the people who make our work possible.

You’ll thrive here if you love building trust with people, take initiative, and like figuring out the path as you go. You’ll join a newer team that is building together, and this role will report to the VP of Philanthropy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospective donors, with individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans
  • Build and maintain authentic relationships with high-net-worth individuals, board members, community leaders, and other key stakeholders
  • Partner with board members and organizational leadership to identify prospects, strengthen relationships, and create opportunities for engagement
  • Find new prospects through research, relationship mapping, referrals, board connections, and following up on cold and warm leads
  • Lead donor meetings and conversations, and conduct regular outreach including calls, events, and personalized communications
  • Prepare donor briefings, proposals, meeting materials, and other cultivation and solicitation materials
  • Track donor activity, next steps, and relationship history in the CRM, and keep stewardship consistent and thoughtful
  • Lead and mentor team members, helping them grow their skills and their donor relationships
  • Collaborate across Development, Marketing and Communications, and other teams to support donor events, share our impact and funding priorities, and keep donor work connected to the rest of the organization
  • Help build a sustainable major gifts program by setting up processes and strategy as it grows, and take initiative in an evolving environment

Required Qualifications
These are the skills you’ll need to do this work. We care about what you can do, not how you learned it.

  • Hands-on experience independently managing a portfolio of donors and guiding people from first conversation through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Comfort making the ask, and following up on both cold and warm leads
  • Build trusting relationships with major donors, board members, senior leaders, and outside partners, listening closely and adapting to what each donor cares about
  • Represent Crisis Text Line with confidence and credibility, leading conversations and meetings with donors, board members, and senior leaders
  • Communicate clearly in writing and in person, and collaborate across teams and functions
  • Stay organized across many donor relationships and shifting priorities, and track your work in a CRM or donor database
  • Protect confidential donor information, work independently, and make decisions when processes are still being built

Preferred Qualifications
The following experience would be useful, but we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every item:

  • Experience asking donors for large gifts and closing them
  • Experience growing and stewarding donor relationships across individuals, foundations, and corporate partners
  • Experience finding new donors through referrals, research, or community ties, and partnering with board members on fundraising
  • Experience mentoring and leading people
  • Experience building a fundraising program or process
  • Experience in nonprofit and/or grantmaking organizations, healthcare, mental health, or volunteer-driven settings

OMB Control Number 1250-0005

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
